Greetings,
We participated in the Manassas-Bull Run CBC on Monday, Dec. 26. We missed the
very cold 2004 count last year so could understand why so many people were
happy with a 39 degree start for the day.
The part of our sector that we count includes the International Town and
Country Club along Route 50 across from the Greenbriar Shopping Center. This
has always been a very productive place.
The highlights for this year's visit included four RED BREASTED NUTHATCHES, a
first for this location in five visits over the past six years, and finding a
juvenile RED HEADED WOODPECKER. This was the third time between 2000 and this
year that we have found Red-headeds at this golf course. The past two times
included finding adults as well. Try as we might, we could not find the adults
this year. The golf course manager of this private club has been very kind to
permit us to bird here for the CBC over the years.
Even with the gusting winds that arrived just before noon, it was a nice day to
be out counting.
Good Birding to all,
Jay and Carol Hadlock
