VA Birders,
Today, in addtition to 6 PURPLE FINCHES, 2 PINE SISKINS and others, I had 4
woodpecker species in the yard; DOWNY, RED-BELLIED, NOTHERN FLICKER, and the
first time RED-HEADED that showed up day before yesterday. This juvenile bird
came to the feeder about every 10 or 15 minutes today, and drove away
everything from COMMON GRACKLES to CAROLINA CHICKADEES. He/She only backed off
when a BLUE JAY came in to feed. Click on the following site to see three
photos I managed to get of this bird at the feeder.
http://www.bcplnet.org/birdclub/gallery/RedHead1.htm If you look closely you
can see a few, tiny red feathers starting to show up on its head.
Enjoy the birds,
