[va-bird] Julie Metz Wetlands Bank, Prince William Co., Feb. 22

Hello, birders.

The Harris' Sparrow was present mid-morning today with
other sparrows at the monument at Julie Metz. It made
an appearance three times, I think, in about an hour
for a few minutes at a time. Thanks to the couple
whose names I did not get for spreading bird seed on
the ground at this spot. Other sparrows feeding in or
near this spot were Am. Tree (3), Song, Fox (1),
White-throated and Swamp (brushy areas only).

There were several other birders there this morning,
including Jason Waanders and Stephen (last name?)
Some birders from Pennsylvania saw Bald Eagles here
today. Others raptors soaring above us: 1
Red-shouldered Hawk calling repeatedly, 3 Red-tailed
Hawks above the parking lot, 1 Black and 6 Turkey
Vultures.

I spooked 12 Wood Ducks from the marsh. We didn't
know they were there until they called and then flew
away from us. Canada Geese and a Mallard were the
other waterfowl species present.
