As a run-through for next week's VSO Field Trips, jerry Uhlman and I birded
the 42nd St. section of James River Park this am. Birds of note included:
1. Warblers: Yellow-rump (everywhere, and in breeding plumage),
Yellow-throated, No. Parula, Black & White, Palm, and Hooded (my first of the
year)
2. Red and White-eyed Vireos, but no Blue-headed
3. No. Rough-winged Swallows
4. An adult Cooper's Hawk soaring lazily over-head
5. A Little Green Heron
6. Most unusual, and i believe a first for me, was a Great Egret feeding
among the rocks on the James River.
In a little over 2 hours we saw or heard 37 species, with the great majority
of migrants yet to arrive.
