Pardon the late posting.
Birded Jackson Abbott Wetland Refuge for about half an hour at midday
yesterday.
Of interest, saw
four Great Egrets (three fishing together)
wood duck, male
great blue heron (2)
hooded merganser pair
green winged teal pair
of course there were:
canada geese
red winged blackbirds
Directions to Jackson Miles Abbott Wetland Refuge from Washington, D.C.:
Take I-95 south to the Belvoir/Newington exit. After exiting, turn right on
to the Fairfax County Parkway. Follow the parkway until it ends at U.S.
Route 1 (Richmond Highway). Make a left on Route 1 and continue past the
installation's gates on your right. Turn left onto Mill Road, and continue
until it dead ends, then turn right onto Pole Road. The refuge entrance is
on the left. Please note that parking is limited.
