Hello Everyone,
I just got back from a short birding trip below my
house along the Clinch River. About a half hour into my bird walk I came
upon a 'duck sized' bird but other than size there was nothing duck like
about this bird. He/She had Dark Blue Wings, With a slightly darker head,
crooked legs like a Heron, and a neck that contracted when he/she perched
but elongated while in flight. The field marks I saw where a white chin
strip and some vertical white strips on the center of his/her breast. Also,
while perched his/her tail split in about the middle and closed
repetitively. I would estimate the birds bill was about 3 to 4 inches long
and very very sharp. Upon looking in my field guide I thought it may have
been a Green Heron (Butorides virescens), however, my field guide says it is
uncommon. If you have any thoughts of what this bird may be please give me
a shout.
Thank you All for Your Time!
Also I saw:
(By Sight)
5 - Female Brown-headed Cowbirds (at feeder)
3 - Male Brown-headed Cowbirds
1- Mourning Dove
