Between 10:30 and 11:30 this morning at the Prince William County Landfill,
it seemed like I was seeing a first winter Iceland Gull every time I turned
around. I thought, surely there must be two here today. I'm pretty certain
there
were two, because after seeing what I thought was the same one so many times
(poor me), I thought I'd better study it a bit more closely in case there were
two. It turned out that the second one I was seeing had slightly less
patterned tertials, but other than that, they were quite similar. Also seen
were 3
Lesser Black-backed Gulls (2 adults and 1 3rd year).
It was a treacherous drive up to the top this morning..very icy and slippery.
While driving up the mountain the back way, the Jeep started going sideways
(even though it was in 4 wheel drive) and I was scared a plenty! Lately,
they've been telling us to drive up the back way, but after today's near free
fall,
I'll plead my case to go up the usual route.
