Hi Birders,
Laura Catterton and I hung out at the PW County Dump for a couple of hours
and were happy to come up with an immature Iceland and a couple of
Lesser Blackback Gulls. Laura determined that this was a different gull
from the immature Iceland she'd seen on a couple of occasions earlier in
the season. I could recognize one of the LBBs as it is one of the dirtiest
I've ever seen, and he'd been at this location earlier. No Laughing Gulls -
probably driven out by the nasty cold snap; Laura (the expert on the landfill)
says the number of birds is way down from last Thursday, which was the
last mild day in this neck of the woods, but there were still multitudes of
gulls. Hope the numbers can pick up again before the next freeze!
