[va-bird] Ice Birds, Gloucester Co.

VA-Birders:

Our feeders and the local area exploded with bird activity coincident with
the icing-over we got here the past couple of days.

PINE WARBLERS have become the primary visitors to our suet feeder now,
though the R-B WOODPECKER drops in now and again. HERMIT THRUSHES seem to
be everywhere along the forest edge. An E. PHOEBE was present all day
yesterday, mostly sitting in the middle of the road looking confused. Both
species of KINGLETS were present in higher numbers than we typically
see. A S-S HAWK made a fly-through visit, but i believe he left empty-handed.

AMERICAN PIPITS were very active yesterday along road edges where the ice
was melting. A number of SAVANNAH SPARROWS were in with them in places.

The feeders are well attended by a WB NUTHATCH, JUNCOS, GOLDFINCHES,
CARDINALS, TITMICE, CHICKADEES, W-T SPARROWS. The E. BLUEBIRDs are looking
very blue against the stark background.
