As part of a combined effort by the Loudoun Wildlife Conservancy to census
Loudoun County today , I birded Riverside Park between 6-30 to 7-30 a.m. and
then lead the regular Saturday morning birdwalk at Banshee Reeks .
Highlights at Riverside were Glossy Ibis ( 2 ) , very rare in the
Piedmont and probably a first record for Loudoun County ( digiscoped for the
record
!!!! ) , Solitary Sandpiper ( 16 ) , Willow Flycatcher ( 2 ) , Northern
Waterthrush , Savannah Sparrow ( 3 ) showing breeding activity , Lincoln's
Sparrow and Rose-breasted Grosbeak.
Highlights at Banshee were Bald Eagle , Osprey , Least Flycatcher ,
Warbling Vireo , Veery , Swainson's Thrush , Grey-cheecked Thrush ( from song
and
calls , not Bicknell's ) , Northern Parula , Wilson's Warbler ( heard ) ,
Tennessee Warbler ( heard today , seen yesterday ) , Yellow-breasted Chat ( 6 )
,
Scarlet Tanager ( 6 ) , Grasshopper Sparrow , Blue Grosbeak , Baltimore
Oriole ( 4 ) , and Orchard Oriole ( 6 ) .
