The only places where I have seen large numbers
of myrtle (yellow-rumped) warblers during the
past winter in the northern neck are where there
are large thickets of wax myrtle (southern
bayberry, Myrica cerifera) at Dameron and
Mulberry, where numbers have exceeded 200.
Yellow-rumpeds eat the berries.

Looking at the posts today, I saw a total of 3
yellow-rumps reported in
Northern Virginia.  I have birded every
morning this week (at least a
little), and had exactly 1 yellow-rump.  Can
anyone remember a week in April
with such a dearth of yellow-rumps?  I can't.
Cheers.
