Took a quick stroll around the pond at Huntley Meadows - Alexandria - Fairfax
Co. this morning...best birds were 3 Stilt Sandpipers foraging together about
30 feet off the boardwalk (pond side) heading toward the tower past the
boardwalk junction. One GW TEal cavorting w. some Mallards...nice morning but
no
raptors up...
Dyke Marsh trail remains closed...many trees down. Just heard that permission
was given to rebuild the marina...pilings remain and that's about it. There
is a movement afoot to coordinate a volunteer effort with NPS to see if we can
get the trail open again. The boardwalk is in pieces but trees and garbage
need to be taken care of in order to just get out to the boardwalk anyway...
