5 hardy participants joined me at the King's Highway entrance for the annual
Huntley-sponsored Hike-Bike Trail walk this morning.
Highlight birds included a Louisiana Waterthrush along the stream in the North
Marsh (a breeder I hope!), a Great Crested Flycatcher at the same location, 2
Hermit Thrushes and a Veery along the Pond Trail, and a Scarlet Tanager
half-way down the Hike-Bike Trail.
3 singing Ruby-crowned Kinglets added some cheer to an otherwise rainy and
dreary day. Red-eyed Vireos and Ovenbirds are now present in decent numbers- 8
each, but only 2 Common Yellowthroats were seen or heard. No problem finding
Blue-gray Gnatcatchers or Yellow-rumped warblers- we had 32 of the former and
145 of the latter.
Finally, it looks like a pair of Eastern Phoebes are nesting under the platform
overlooking the Central Marsh at the end of the Hike-Bike Trail.
