Made a brief visit to Huntley Meadows to find out how the
birds were coping without open water! Certainly beat
the crowds; saw only two other humans.
Canada Geese - flock sitting on ice
Ring-billed Gulls - ditto
Red-bellied Woodpecker - one near VC, calling
Downy Woodpeckers - hoping VC feeders would be soon refilled
Northern Flickers - flock N of boardwalk
American Robins - small flock near VC
Carolina Chickadees - in trees and at feeders near VC
Tufted Titmouse - few
White-breasted Nuthatches - in trees and at feeders near VC
Song Sparrow - by boardwalk
White-throated Sparrows - common, especially in marsh, some calling
Dark-eyed Junco - small flock near trail
N. Cardinal - female near VC
Red-winged Blackbirds - several large flocks in marsh area
One duck overhead apparently decided to land elsewhere!
Beaver dams intact; even the oldest seems to be holding.
