visited Huntley Meadows mid-day today (Boise State provided too much distraction last night). for those who have not been in a while, & recall when the dams were deteriorating, the beavers are now maintaining the several dams well, & with the rains, the water was up to levels of several years ago. in addition to the normal acre of Canada geese, other good waterfowl too:

green-wing teal
northern shoveler
black duck (1 pr)
pintail
mallard
hooded merganser (3 pr)

also a good showing of sparrows:
song sparrow
swamp sparrow (1)
field sparrow (1)
white-throated sparrow (1/2 acre)

plus both crows & the other usual suspects for January.
oddly, no great blue heron.
