VA Birders,
After posting Rob Hilton's report on the bird he and Lisa Shannon
identified as a Band-rumped Storm-Petrel on Sep. 19, I talked to 2 other
birders who
had been at Hunting Creek (Alexandria-Fairfax Co.) earlier that afternoon.
Both of them reported seeing 2 storm-petrels when they were there. One bird
was
identified as a Wilson's Storm-Petrel. They thought the other bird was
probably a Wilson's also, but it was not close enough for a positive
identification
to be made. The second bird might well have been the same bird that Rob
Hilton later identified, after studying it carefully for 2 hours, as a
Band-rumped
Storm-Petrel.
Good birding,
Val Kitchens
