[va-bird] Re: Humtley Meadows Park 012405

Gentle Readers,

A gathering at Huntley Meadows Park to commemorate the life of Gene Keefe will
be held on Sunday, January 30, at 11 a.m. Gene led the Monday Morning
Birdwalks for many years.

At 0700 this morning, 1/24/2005, the temperature was 9 deg F. Even so, three
stalwarts of the Monday Morning Birdwalk made their self-appointed rounds. Sy
Fishbein led the group on this very cold day, with calm winds, and sunny skies.
The snow glistened as individual crystals, which might have been considered
beautiful had it not been so cold. Even so, a Red-headed Woodpecker was
active down Barnyard Run. The three hawks probably did more to suppress the
total species count than the winter weather.

Number Common Name
2 Canada Goose
1 Red-shouldered Hawk
2 Red-tailed Hawk

4 American Crow
