Three Horned Grebe were seen today, Tuesday, March 4, on the upstream side of
the Stone Bridge on the Mount Vernon Parkway just south of Alexandria at 1330
. The low tide brought the Ringed-billed Gulls, Great Black-backed Gulls,
Herring Gulls, Mallards, American Coots, a Bald Eagle, Canada Geese, and
Common Mergansers in close enough for a good look, but no Horned Grebe were
seen until a movement directly below the bridge revealed the bird. Two more
were seen upstream near the Route 1 Bridge swimming with an American Black
Duck. Both a Fish Crow and a Belted Kingfisher scolded the observer.
White-throats in the brush.
As lunches go, it was not bad.
