Back Bay Birding Club went to Hog Island and Chippokes Plantation State Park
today (Saturday). Bald Eagles ruled the skies at Hog Island and many Osprey
with fresh fish in their talons were seen as well. Eastern Bluebirds met us at
the entrance and were just stunning in the bright sun. There was not a great
variety of waterfowl present with the exception of Tundra Swans. Tree Swallows
were numerous down by the office.
At Chippokes there was a raft of about 30 Ruddy Ducks in the river. A singing
Phoebe lured us down College Run Trail and at the end in the field by the
plantation we enjoyed 6 Wild Turkeys. Close to the Visitors Center we saw a
pair
of Yellow-bellied Sapsuckers.
We observed 50 species of birds in both locations.
