The initial data report for Highland County's Eagle Watch has been posted on
the Bath-Highland Bird Club website www.bathhighlandbird.org
The data report includes observations for January 14 through April 15 of 2006,
including:
- summary statistics
- observation records
- an observation map
- photo documentation
- a listing of contributors
The most notable findings are:
- 68 Bald Eagle observations
- 53 Golden Eagle observations
- two active Bald Eagle nests
The Eagle Watch was coordinated by Sandy Bratton, Sandy Hevener, Patti Reum,
and Brenda Tekin. They have all spent, and continue to spend, many hours on the
program, and they deserve our thanks.
The Eagle Watch was initiated after the avian consultant for the developer of
the proposed wind turbine facility in western Highland County dismissed the
significance of eagles in the area. The coordinators of the Eagle Watch have
submitted the data report to the Department of Environmental Quality and to
other agencies involved in the review of the proposed project. The wind project
developer's reports and the environmental agency responses can be accessed via
