VA Birders,
Buchanan Co. and Russell Co. birders today birded Elk Garden in Russell Co.
and the Hidden Valley Lake trail in Washington Co. VA. elevation 3000 feet.
Those present were: Bob Riggs, Roger and Lynda Mayhorn, Fred and Ricky
Martin and Jean Montgomery.
In Elk Garden one of the highlights was the Bobolink colony, where the males
were doing their fluttering flight and singing their song that sounds like
R2D2 of Star Wars. It's a must see for those who haven't. Also found there
was a Blue Grosbeak and a Willow Flycatcher.
The main part of the day was spent at the higher elevation of Hidden Valley
Lake. The highlights there were Veerys, Magnolia Warblers, Canada Warblers,
Chestnut-sided Warblers, Black-throated Blues and Black-throated Greens.
