VA Birders,
The Radford Arsenal near Dublin VA was the area birded today by Bob Riggs
and Roger & Lynda Mayhorn of the Russell Co. and Buchanan Co. bird clubs.
With special permission granted we were allowed onto the arsenal grounds.
The morning started out very foggy, but in the fog the two note song of
Henslow's Sparrow could be heard. Within minutes one flew up onto a stalk
and began to sing. The viewing conditions through the fog were not ideal,
but they were good enough to ID the bird which gave me another lifebird.
Before the morning was through we had seen and heard 3 more Henslows with a
total of 33 species. Blue Grosbeaks, Bobwhites, Kingbirds and Grasshopper
Sparrows were some of the variety seen on the many acres of grassland along
with many deer sporting huge racks. Following is the complete list:
