Hello all
After work this afternoon & went over to the Lyndhurst area to check out
Quillen's Pond . No waterfowl was to be seen but one Great Egret was grounded
by the misty rain since early this morning . After checking the pond I went to
the outside of the gate where there is a long weedy patch . This patch of weeds
can hide many species of Sparrows & sometimes a rare one . Today held true ,
near the end of the weeds next to the corn field I had one lone bird jump up &
flew very low to the ground but landed about 15 feet in front of me on a weed
stem . I got good looks at the back & head & after checking out several guides
it turned out to be a Juv . Henslow's Sparrow . A life bird for me .
Other Sparrows seen there today were Song , Swamp , Lincoln's , Savannah , &
Henslow's .
Getting there -- Take I 64 to Exit 94 Rt 340 -- turn left & go to the Stop
light at Ladd . Turn left at the light & go about one mile to the next
intersection a Right turn . ( sorry can not remember the Rt. number of name of
road ) Take this road follow & pass the Waynesboro Nurserys office -- follow &
go over the Rail Road tracks -- follow a short distance & take a right onto the
Old Lyndhurst Road Rt. 624 I think -- follow this road about 2 miles -- go
over a small bridge & the entrance is on your left . You will see the cut corn
field . The bird was seen in the weedy patch nearest the corn field edge . Good
Luck !!!
