Last weekend Robert Ferrell, Judy Wiegand, Mark Johnson and I drove from
Lynchburg to the Emporia area to search for Mississippi Kites. I see that
Todd Day and Susan Heath found kites last weekend on Saturday along route
730 at the Meherrin River. On Sunday, May 23rd, we took a quick break in
Emporia (after over a 2 hour drive) arriving about 11 am. We searched at
the river and also made several other stops along routes 730, 622, and 625,
scanning the sky constantly. But we did not see a single kite. We did not
drive very far down route 624; was that our mistake?
We plan to return this Saturday, May 29, to search again. If you can
suggest any other locations, strategy, etc. that might improve our chances
of locating kites this weekend; we would appreciate your help.
