[va-bird] Harvey's Knob, Va. BIG DAY 9/23/02

Long awaited northerly winds finally appeared
at Harvey's today, shared with lots of observers
hoping to finally see lots of BWs, and they were
not disappointed. Even with brisk winds, there were
not many birds until after 12:00, and then the winds
died down, but the birds were already moving. At one
interval after 1:00 a new Harvey's single day record
for Bald Eagles was set with 8 seen in a period of 45
minutes, and at 3:30 the skies opened with about
2200 BWs passing high overhead in the next half hour,
followed by another 900 in the next half hour, a
constant flow of birds. The Harvey's guru, Dr. Holt,
will have to check the archives to determine if this
was the 3rd best day for our hawkwatch.
   More tomorrow?????
