I think this is the first posting for the season for Harvey's and a lot of
the reason is that there has been little to post. We started the season on the
13th of August and until today the high daily total was 33 birds Aug. 21. There
has been only one other day in the 20s or higher until today. Haze/poor
visibility has been the biggest problem we have faced, coupled with the heat
which more often than not puts the birds out of sight overhead. Today the birds
were microdots but thanks to plentiful clouds and a cadre of good watchers we
were able to pick a lot up. Todays count and all but two days of the seasonal
count are as follows:
9/11 Season
Osprey 8 46
B. Eagle 3 16
N. Harrier 0 7
S. S. Hawk 5 26
C. Hawk 1 16
R.S. Hawk 0 2
B.W. Hawk 125 195
R.T. Hawk 1 60
A. Kestrel 1 13
Unknown 3 12
total 147 393
Of some note, A Peregrine Falcon seen 9/3 has not been included in this
total due to it's early date. This is not the first time that a Peregrine has
been seen in early Sept. leading me to wonder if there might not just be a
local in the vicinity.
