VA Birders,
Rob Hilton asked me to post a report that he saw a Harris's Sparrow at
Julie Metz Wetlands, Prince William Co., at about 11:45 am this morning. The
bird was on or near the boardwalk path to the blind, which is just north of the
spot where it was reported previously. Our No. Va. Bird Club trip to nearby
Leesylvania State Park went to Julie Metz earlier that morning, but we did not
find the Harris's Sparrow. Then several of us went back at the end of the
trip to look for the sparrow again. We met Rob, who told us about seeing the
bird and showed us where he saw it, but alas, it did not appear for us.
However, we did add 4 nice birds to our trip list on our second visit:
Northern Harrier, Sharp-shinned Hawk, Rusty Blackbird, and Purple Finch (1 of
each). Earlier, the group had seen Am. Tree, Field, Fox, Song, Swamp, and
White-throated Sparrows, and Dark-eyed Junco at Julie Metz Wetlands.
