Greetings...
From about three until seven PM today I drove a leisurely pace through parts
of Spotsylvania, Orange, Culpeper, and Fauquier Counties. Best find was a
harrier that looked to be an adult female (though I wouldn't bet too much on
that) hunting over a field on Route 647 near Rapidan. The field was one mile
east from the intersection with Route 615. I think, but am not totally
certain, this is the general area where short-eared owl nested last year.
Not too many other birds of note. A pair of red-headed woodpeckers at a farm
where Steve Rottenborn had a Loggerhead Shrike in Spotsylvania, near the
Orange County line. One Dickcissel calling from the field near Rapidan that
I had them in a few weeks ago. A pair of Kestrels in Orange County right
along the Rapidan on Route 636. Otherwise they the usual suspects.
Cheers...
Todd
