Observation start time: 10:30:00
Observation end time: 16:00:00
Total observation time: 5.5 hours

Official Counter: Gordy Adamski

Observers: Brenda Tekin

Visitors:
A big thank you to Joan Boudreau and Bob Abrams taking a break from
Snicker's Gap Hawk Watch, David & Liz Lee, Mike Iwanik, Kim Harrell from
Richmond, and Henry Wilbur.

Weather:
Forecast indicated morning fog so I slept in. After nearly two weeks of
rain, fog, low clouds, what a pleasant surprise to wake up to see patches
of blue sky and sunshine! Lot of low ground fog in Charlottesville and
several lower ridgetops were covered in a thick white shroud. Gordy
Adamski arrived by 10:30 a.m. EST to start the day.

It was a fine day to be outside.

Westerly wind 1-5km/h increasing to 8-11km/h and then changing to more SE
by 3 p.m.

Observations:
After nearly 2 weeks of rain, fog and clouds that pretty much shut us down,
today just about made up for it. Flight was steady all day today and at
times birds were all over the sky! There was not much of a mid-day lull
and the birds weren't wasting anytime in heading south. The one
unidentified accipiter quite possibly our season's second Northern
Goshawk.

Northern Harrier included 2 immatures that flew in together at 12:50p.m.
EST, 2 adult males and one female.

Several flocks of blackbirds including
Rusty Blackbird (flock of approxly 30)
DC Cormorant (1) - high sailing, soaring, heading east
Golden-crowned Kinglet
Cedar Waxwing - several flocks back and forth
Monarch Butterfly - 2

Predictions:
Let's hope for lots of treats and no tricks...
