Wind from NW>WNW>V>NW, starting out 6-15 km/h and diminishing by mid-day.
Morning cloud cover disappeared by 11:30 a.m. EST and it was a painfully
bright blue sky for remainder of day. (Two days of bright blue and eyes
were hurting by early afternoon.)
Humidity: 51%
Temperature (high): 19c
Observations:
Sharpies ruled today. Bulk came through late afternoon. Small groups
ranging from 2 to five at a time.
Late Broad-winged, an immature, came in close at eye level for good looks
(2:58 p.m. EST).
An adult Red-tailed Hawk appeared late afternoon with left leg held
straight down. Milled around for at least five minutes and leg remained
extended. Will check records from year or two years ago for a Red-tailed
that had an "extended" leg.
Northern Flicker - 4
Red-headed Woodpecker - 1 imm.
Blue Jay - 31
Horned Lark - flock of 18
Rusty Blackbird - 1 up close
Cedar Waxwing - several small flocks
Purple Finch - 1 female or imm.
Ruby-crowned Kinglet - 1
Tree Swallow - 6
Double-crested Cormorant - 1 impressive flock of 86+
Monarch Butterfly - only 8 today
1 dragonfly

The Rockfish Gap Hawk Watch is held on the grounds of the Inn at Afton, located
on the southern side of Rockfish Gap in the Blue Ridge Mountains, just above
where I-64 (exit 99) intersects with the southern end of the Skyline Drive and
the northern end of the Blue Ridge Parkway, just east of Waynesboro, VA and
approximately 22 miles west of Charlottesville, VA.
