Weather:
The spectacular red-orange sunset over Rockfish Gap was a befitting climax
to a sensational day full of non-stop Broadwings. On a bittersweet note,
Mozelle Henkle, one of the original founders of RGHW now living in Costa
Rica, returned to the area due to a death in the immediate family and
visited the site today. Our condolcences go out to Mozelle and her family
during this difficult time.
A north wind, 6-11km/h diminishing to less than 5km/h and changing to N,
then S, to SW and finally SE. Temp: 19.5c>26.5c;
Humidity: 74% dropping to 59%;
Bar.Pressure: holding steady at 1012;
Cloud Cover: mostly sunny with just a few wisps here and there to help
observers spot the birds scattered all over the sky.
Raptor Observations:
Gordy Adamski was on board as official counter, ably assisted by his
daughter, Barb, visiting from Georgis, and other observers who helped in
locating the high flying birds that "were all over the sky."
From the 9-10 o'clock hour until around 3:30 EST, it was non-stop
Broad-winged hawk.
Hourly breakdown for Broadwing flight:
9-10am: 120; 10-11am: 195; 11-12pm: 127; 12-1pm: 201; 1-2pm: 883; 2-3pm:
