Observers: Scott McConnell
Visitors:
Jan (New York woman whooping crane spotter pioneer) and Gil Randell, a few
others.
Weather:
Warm, light southerly wind.
Raptor Observations:
Some movement until 1:00, when flight fizzled. May have been a crossing day
on southerly winds. Most raptors seen yesterday and today have had full
crops. Had a whitebelly bald eagle today carrying a fish being pestered by
a hatch year bald.
Non-raptor Observations:
Splendid passerine flight in morning: rough-counted over 37,000 robins,
probably slightly lesser number of red-winged blackbirds, 338 cedar
waxwings, some large grackle flocks, and some jays, flickers, pipits,
meadowlarks and bluebirds. R-b and br-hd. nuthatches; r-c kinglet; purple
finch; twice heard loons calling; pine siskin; heard a marbled godwit
calling from near the bay. FOY tundra swans last evening after sunset.
Predictions:
Partly cloudy, 72, W wind 7-10.
