Official Counter: Mike Purdy
Observers: Bill James
Visitors:
Richard and Kinuko Jambor from Roanoke stopped by. Still seeing a few AT
hikers passing thru. A few parkway travelers stopped to take in the view.
Weather:
It was a beautiful day on the mountain today. A mix of blue skies and
clouds. There was a light breeze out of the WNW shifting to E around 2pm
EST. The temp. ranged from 68-72.
Raptor Observations:
The weather seemed perfect for a decent flight but the hawks didn't
cooperate. A good mix of 7 species with only 16 individuals.
Non-raptor Observations:
A few more Blue Jays migrating, counted 42 moving in bands of 2-7. A
Yellow-bellied Sapsucker at the watch site was the first one I've seen
this fall. An immature Red-headed Woodpecker was seen migrating south past
the lookout.
Predictions:
It has to get better. Should pick up later this week.
