75-90% cirrus cloud cover all day with a variable breeze (NNW-ESE) 1-5 mph
and a high of 79 F.
Observations:
Several members of the Lynchburg Bird Club defied a bleak prognosis for the
day's flight by enjoying a couple of hours of decent hawk-watching in the
morning. Largest groups of BW were 240 at 2:20 & 120 at 4:00 EDT. Birds
early on were relatively close to the ridge and offered nice looks, but in
the afternoon it was business as usual, spotting the birds by scanning, as
the ridge is not tall enough (1336 feet) to draw the birds under most
