Observers:
Weather:
A little light cirrus came in from the north to help out under NNW 1-4 mph
and a high of 79 F.
Observations:
The late morning started out promising with over a hundred BW from about
11:00-12:00 EST, and a group of 65 more at 12:42, but that was about it
for the day as to what we detected. Birds were significantly lower tody
compared to yesterday for as long as we were seeing them.
Monarchs - 1
Non Monarchs - 6
Saddlebags - 4
Tree Swallow - 2
Blue Jay - 17
Predictions:
Guardedly optimistic regarding the remainder of the month. Reports to the
north indicate that this hugh high pressure cell has been producing
consistent NW winds there that have been pushing the birds towards the
coast, which brings bigger flights to the piedmont. Our flight Monday
seemed to reflect this, and today was hopefully a short lull. There are
enough sizable numbers of Broadwings being reported in New England yet to
suggest that we could have the possibility of appreciable numbers here for
the next week or so. We not uncommonly have our higher numbers towards
the end of September compared to the ridge lookouts.
