After catching up on a week of unread mail I decided this afternoon to check out Greenfield pond, and yes, Roanoke/Botetourt, we too have a red-necked grebe. The bird was near the dam and seemed to be in first winter plumage. Most of the variety of waterfowl is no longer, with mainly ring-necked ducks and mallards there, along with over 100 Canada geese.
