Thursday and Friday there was one great egret and a mixed assortment of
green herons at the pond at Greenfield in Botetourt County. This in
addition to the usual pile of cedar waxwings. barn, tree, and northern
rough-winged swallows, plus some northern bobwhite quail, etc.
There appeared to be three adult green herons and two others that were
possibly juveniles.
I have been hearing reports of great egrets all over. Might this be
dispersal? Or maybe even southward migration?
