I took an abbreviated walk and identified 31 species. With the footing so
icy I birded primarily from the parking lot and visitor's center, but then
trekked to the river. The Potomac between the dam and falls was 50% frozen.
Bluebirds, juncoes and song sparrows landed on the ice to drink from the
river. Of note were two tundra swans on the river. I also watched a crow
catch,
kill and eat a mouse/vole. The walk leaves from the visitor's center at 8:00
am and all are welcome. --Marshall
