A Pine Warbler and an adult male American Redstart were attracted to the
mister in my yard this morning, so I guess the fall fun is underway.
If my yard is any indication, House Finches are again on the upswing in our
area. A vociferous flock of House Finches have been emptying my sunflower
feeders for the past few weeks. It's good to have them back in numbers.
A 7:30 AM walk today at Riverbend Park, mainly through the meadow, produced a
nice variety of birds and many juveniles. Highlights included Scarlet
Tanagers, Baltimore and Orchard Orioles, Indigo Buntings, Eastern Kingbirds,
many
Eastern Pewees and Blue-Gray Gnatcatchers, plus the usual woodpeckers and other
woodland species. The meadow is maturing nicely and I am hopeful it will
again, as last year, attract a variety of warblers migrants in late August and
in
September.
