All,
I was surprised to find a Great Egret at the Upper Occoquan Sewage
Treatment Plant this afternoon about 1:00. It was sitting in a tree
near the east end of the lake. First time I've seen this species away
from the Potomac River in winter. There were hundreds of Common
Mergansers, Ring-billed Gulls and many Fish Crows but not much else. I
guess we need a good freeze to bring up the diversity there since it
stays open all winter.
