VA BIRDers,
The cold front pushed down a fine group of sparrows into the Huntley Meadows
marsh this morning. Here are my estimated numbers of a very busy dawn along
the boardwalk.
Field Sp 2
Song Sp 50
Swamp Sp 65
Lincoln's Sp 2
White-throated Sp 55
White-crowned Sp 1
Junco 1
Also noted were Cattle Egret, 3 Sharp-shinned Hawks (incl one wonderful adult,
prob. female), 2 Red-shouldered Hawks, 5 Greater Yellowlegs, Yellow-bellied
Sapsucker, E. Phoebe, 2 Gray Catbirds, and a Common Yellowthroat.
I think this weather should result in a good sparrow showing for Fairfax
Audubon Society's Fall Sparrow Field Trip this Saturday. There are a few slots
open for our visit to North Forks Wetlands tomorrow morning - drop me a line if
you're interested.
