I stopped by the Woodward turf farms in Remington today, the ones of Upland
Sandpiper fame. In the area of harvested winter wheat along the side road
that turns right off of 651 coming from Remington (the route number escapes
me right now), the American Golden-Plover was feeding. It was seen with
about a dozen Pectoral Sandpipers, four Semipalmated Sandpipers, and scores
of Killdeer. There was also a Least Sandpiper in a different section of the
field. The field is also dotted with Horned Larks, many young ones.
The spot where I had the Golden-Plover was at the bend in the road, looking
perpendicular to the road all the way to where the harvested wheat gives way
to sod.
Cheers...
Todd
