Birder folk,
Much too early for a Golden Eagle but seeing is believing!
This morning Rosemarie and I were returning from Culpeper on Rt. 615
and stopped at the entrance to the Correctional Center (north of
Rapidan) to look at nearby tornado damage. Several TV's, a
Red-shouldered Hawk and an immature Golden Eagle were circling and
fighting the wind. The eagle flew overhead and disappeared on a
southerly course toward the Heatwole Ranch/Airport. We were able to
observe it for two-three minutes.
I suspect that the arrival of this bird is related to Hurricane Ivan
churning up winds north of us.
Happy birding,
George Harris
