After a fine morning with the NVBC at Lubber Run in Arlington this morning and
a good afternoon at Monticello Park in Alexandria this afternoon, I spent the
evening from 5:30 to 8:15 at Huntley Meadows, Alexandria, hoping to see a
Yellow-crowned Night Heron while watching the sun set. This bird was seen by
another birder but not by me.
As compensation, I was treated to the sight of a single Glossy Ibis feeding
inside the boardwalk circle where it remained for hours. It had the most
vividly-colored plumage I've ever seen, and as the dusk deepened the colors
became more intense.
Other highlight (for me) was about 12-15 Least Sandpipers which I could not
identify, but the birder who saw the Yellow-crowned Night Heron did and got
them in his scope for several of us. Didn't ask your name, but thanks again
for all your help.
