Wanting to try out my new tripod and ball head, we went searching for some
Great Blue Herons to no avail. We hit all the usual spots, hiking up and down
trails, seeing nothing more than a turtle for our trouble. On the way home, we
stopped at Virginia Center Commons mall in Hanover County. Coming out of Barnes
and Noble, we decided to cruise by the drainage pond in the center of the
parking area. There was a beautiful GBH just standing there with all the
hustle and bustle around. We both burst out laughing, as I proceeded to set up
my tripod. We could have saved a lot of gas, not to mention mosquito bites and
ticks. Next time, we'll just go to the mall..

Question..Is there a way to tell the male from the female GBH?
Happy birding!
