[va-bird] [Fwd: spring-summer bird work]

SEASONAL FIELD RESEARCH ASSISTANT* needed for ecological study of breeding forest bird populations in the two sites of the George Washington Memorial Parkway (Turkey Run and Great Falls Parks), located in the Washington, D.C. metro area. The project will be conducted under the Smithsonian National Zoo’s Migratory Bird Center under the direction of S. Sillett and M. Castellanos. **

Individual must be able to identify Mid-Atlantic forest birds by sight and sound using a standard point count method; _previous survey experience is preferred_. The position will involve measuring vegetation, require the person to have good color vision, and an ability to hike and work alone in rugged, and steep terrain. Applicants should have an interest in avian behavioral and population ecology.

Field work starts in early to mid May and lasts 10 weeks. Stipend is $400 per week. Must have own vehicle; will pay local mileage for work-related driving.
