banded bird to the USGS and find out where it came from. =20

All you need is the number that Jack has noted below.
This is actually an important part of citizen science as it lets us
all
know where this bird came from and how far it has traveled. As a
volunteer bander at Occoquan I know that personally I love to know
where
our banded birds end up. We also get excited when we find a foreign
band. We were once lucky enough to net a Northern Waterthrush that
had
been banded in Puerto Rico. This is one more data point to help folks
there manage their environment which in turns helps us keep our
wildlife
diversity healthy.
So, please, if you find a bird like Jack did - report it to the
USGS and
then if you can - let VA-Birds know what you find out. Sure to be an
interesting story.
Oh, BTW, this goldfinch was not an OCCO bird so it was banded
somewhere
out of the No VA area most likely.
