Howdy VAbirders!
As the Ruby-throated hums migrate south, please be sure to keep an eye out
for western hum species that have decided to gift us with their
presence. If you are lucky enough to have a western hum visit you or know
of one showing up in Virginia or other eastern states, please consider
passing the information on to Stacy Peterson, (see his post below). He is
a humbander who maps such out-of-range western hums. Please DO NOT send
him sightings of Ruby-throated hummers.
Thanks much!

HI folks,
I just wanted to alert you that for the 4th year (in the case of some
species), we are again mapping the occurrence of "western" hummingbirds
out of their so-called normal range during the fall and winter. You can
view these maps online
at: <http://trochilids.tripod.com>http://trochilids.tripod.com
I am able to gather a few sighting reports of these hummers from periodic
perusals of various state birding listservs and RBAs, but I rely heavily
on volunteers bringing sightings to my attention; not all listservs and
RBAs are available to non-subscribers. If you would be willing to email
me with information about sightings of these hummingbirds from now on, I
would certainly appreciate it. And feel free to share this message with
your state birding listserv if you feel that's appropriate.
If you have any questions, feel free to let me know. And be aware that
the maps and sighting pages, while up-to-date now, will probably not be
updated for another week (my wife will be taking this laptop to a
conference). But send me reports and I'll archive them on my "other"
computer for when she returns...
Thanks!
--Stacy
