Rusty Blackbird Info
Needed
Hi all. Here's a message from John Gerwin, a colleague here at the
Museum. Thanks, John Connors @ NC Museum of Natural Sciences, Raleigh, NC
ISO RUSTY BLACKBIRDS
The Rusty Blackbird has declined as much as any North American Bird in the
past 30 years. Estimates from Christmas Count and BBS data place the
decline at 85-95%!
The International Rusty Blackbird Technical Group was formed to conduct
research on the causes of this disturbing trend in what used to be a common
bird.
The decline is most acute along the coastal plain from Virginia to Georgia.
We are working with the North Carolina Museum of Natural Sciences to
develop
an inventory of where Rusty Blackbirds still occur in this region and to
conduct field research on causes of the decline.
We would greatly appreciate any recent sightings of RUBLs, particularly
those involving flocks that are found relatively reliably.
If you have such sightings, please e-mail them to Russell Greenberg at
greenberg@xxxxxx, or John Gerwin at John.Gerwin@xxxxxxxxxxx You will be
contributing to efforts to reverse the RUBL decline!
Sincerely,
Russell Greenberg
