Subject: (Out of State) Western Meadowlark in Franklin county PA

All,
I'm sending this out as info for those of you close enough to Franklin
county PA.
The site is about a 2hr drive from the Eastern Panhandle area and a 3hr
drive from
the Morgantown, WV area. I found the Western Meadowlark in the field
mentioned
below. The bird looked like an Eastern but the song and call note were
totally
different. The Yoder family is very gracious for allowing access to their
property. If
you see one of them please take the time to thank them. Got a picture.Worth
the trip.
Hope you get to see it too.

Matt

Directions:

A WESTERN MEADOWLARK has been singing at the Walter Yoder Farm near Dry Run
through at least July 6 (BK, AT). To get to the Yoder Farm, take Route 75
north toward Dry Run. Turn left on School Road toward Dry Run. Go 0.2
miles to a stop sign. Turn right onto a back road (labeled SR 4007 on page
76 in the DeLorme Gazetteer). Go 0.3 miles to the Walter Yoder farm on the
right. First you will see a drive that goes back to the chicken houses. DO
NOT turn at this drive but proceed to the next drive. The Yoder name is on
the mailbox across from the drive, just beyond the two chicken houses.
Walter Yoder has given permission to drive in their driveway, going between
the house and bard, then right beyond the barn and follow the drive down to
a sawmill. The bird can usually be viewed from the drive in the pasture
behind the barn and between the chicken houses and the sawmill. The WESTERN
MEADOWLARK often is seen perching on fence posts. Please be careful while
on the Yoder property and watch out for their children on the drive.
